Names of victims in double fatal accident released

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The Putnam County Sheriff has released the names of the two people who were killed in a car accident early Tuesday morning.

The driver, Sondra Rice, 59, of Hurricane, and the passenger, Laurie Hall, 54 of Hurricane were killed on US Route 35 near Anderson Hollow Road in Pliny, according to sheriff’s deputies.

Investigators say the driver of a truck, headed south on Route 35, appears to have lost control on ice and went off the road where it hit another truck that was already in the ditch.

Deputies say the truck in the ditch was unoccupied.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department and the West Virginia State Police are both investigating.

The accident happened just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Putnam/Mason line.

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The Putnam County Sheriff says ice is a contributing factor in an accident that left two people dead.

It happened just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday along Route 35 at the Putnam/Mason line will remain shut down for several hours.

Deputies say an unoccupied vehicle was hit by a vehicle heading east after spinning on ice.

Both people inside the vehicle were killed.

West Virginia State Police is investigating.

No other information has been released.

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two people have died following an accident along Route 35 in Putnam County, according to 911 dispatchers.

The Winfield Volunteer Fire Department says Route 35 at the Putnam/Mason line will remain shut down for several hours.

The accident involving one vehicle happened just before 7:30 Tuesday morning.

West Virginia State Police say it happened near Anderson Hollow Road.

The Putnam Sheriff’s Department, West Virginia State Police, the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department and Putnam EMS are all on scene.

Injuries have been reported.
