SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A 14-year-old boy who was hit by a driver Sunday is listed in stable but critical condition Tuesday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Jacob Walters is the boy officials say was hit along County Road 1 in South Point, Ohio.

His father, Johnny Walters, spoke Tuesday with WSAZ.

Johnny says his son has a cracked skull, fractures across his face, and a broken femur, among other injuries from that crash.

Johnny says his son Jacob was just running along County Road 1, trying to get in shape ahead of the soccer season, as Jake wanted to start on South Point’s Varsity Soccer Team.

He was shocked to learn it was his son who was hit.

“That’s a horrible gift to get on Father’s Day,” Johnny said. “But the best gift is that he’s alive, and that’s what we have to hold on to.”

Investigators are surveying the area for any security cameras.

Authorities are asking any witnesses to come forward. You can call the post at 740-377-4311.

There are some conflicting statements about exactly how the crash happened. As a result, the investigation continues as investigators work to get all the facts, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.

Further information has not been released.

Johnny says Jake is making progress in the ICU, but they recognize the road to recovery won’t be an easy one.

“All we need from the community is when you bow your head, don’t forget my son Jacob,” Johnny said. “He needs all the prayers, the kind words. Hug and love your children.”
