First Warning Forecast | Cold Dry Mornings, Better Afternoons

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The afternoon sunshine does show wall-to-wall sunshine, but with highs struggling to get back to about 50-degrees the jackets for most will stay on. The eastern mountains, where several inches of snow has fallen, temperatures will have a hard time just getting out of the 30s. Just when we reach somewhat livable weather this afternoon, the clear evening sky will send temperatures tumbling again, right back into the 20s for tomorrow morning.

Thursday will end up our best day of the week, as continued sunshine joins a strengthening southerly breeze to push temperatures across the 60-degree mark. Given the dryness, the breeze and the inviting milder air, this is going to be a high fire danger day. As it is, no burning is legal in our three-state area when conducted during the daylight hours. Nevertheless, this is the day to get out there and actually enjoy the weather. You’ll regret not having done that on Friday, as Saint Patrick’s Day will be spent in clouds and showers. Once that system departs, we go cold again, set to spend the last weekend of winter in... ‘winter’. Morning lows will again be in the 20s, with afternoon highs again in the 40s.
